NORTHUMBERLAND – The skies over Northumberland next Tuesday might sound—and look a little like WW II when a B-17 flyover honors the late Ted Van Kirk. The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress bomber will also be on display – and available for tours – at the Sunbury airport. Dick Simpson of the American Legion Post 44 tells WKOK, the flyover is being arranged to honor Northumberland native Van Kirk, who died Tuesday at the age of 93. ‘Dutch,’ as he was known, was the last surviving member of the crew of the Enola Gay, the B-29 aircraft that dropped the first atomic bomb on Japan.
